Nearly 55,000 homes have reportedly been impacted by the storms, with their belongings and shelters destroyed.

Intense storms over the past week have compounded the precarious living conditions of the hundreds of thousands of evacuated residents in the region, as reported by relief organizations.

"Terrible" Weather Poses Grave Risks

A representative described the recent storm as "terrible", with precipitation so intense that up to 15cm (6in) of water was seen on the terrain.

"The recent weather was exceptionally difficult for the people. The storms were so powerful... And the gusts were so forceful," noted the spokesperson.

There is extreme worry that young ones residing in makeshift shelters in damp clothing will fall victim to hypothermia and various sicknesses.

Deaths and Widespread Damage

Health authorities have confirmed that one baby has succumbed from exposure and no fewer than 11 other people have been killed in roof cave-ins triggered by the harsh conditions.

Additional accounts put a higher death toll. Officials stated that numerous residential buildings had collapsed completely and dozens had collapsed partially.

  • Nearly 55,000 families impacted by rains.
  • More than 40 designated safe spaces severely flooded.
  • Numerous individuals forced to find new shelter.

Aid Distribution Seen as Not Enough

Groups have escalated distribution of shelter, blankets and garments after the halt in hostilities started, but they have said there is still not enough aid entering.

"Agencies are striving constantly to bring in that aid and to distribute it, but the scale of the requirements is so vast that we continue to see thousands of individuals and minors who are genuinely struggling nightly," warned one representative.

Long-Term Issues and Truce Terms

The second phase of the truce involves proposals for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with political arrangements, the pullback of military forces, and other provisions.

Humanitarian organizations have highlighted the imperative for "greater and continuous aid to address urgent and long-term needs."

The conflict was initiated by an offensive in late 2023. Later military operations have led to a significant number of casualties in the territory, as per medical data.
