The Eurovision Song Contest Used to Be a Lighthearted Spectacle – However It Has Transformed Into a Strategic Method to Gloss Over Warfare.

Yet, there has been no semblance of normality about the genocide in Gaza, where entire family lineages have been eradicated and the number of children who have lost limbs is greater than that of anywhere else in the world. No sense of normalcy about numerous doctors coming back from a sea of ruins with accounts of children being deliberately targeted.
An Unimaginable Crisis Regardless of a Announced Cessation of Hostilities

Ignore the report that a toddler was allegedly fatally struck in Gaza on a recent Sunday. Forget the fact that attacks by settlers and coerced removal in the West Bank have increased dramatically. Disregard the condition that international journalists are still prevented from unfettered access in Gaza. This entire context, apparently, should be permitted to obstruct of Eurovision’s cherished spirit of unity.
The Pageant Proceeds While Ignoring Staggering Tragedy
Eurovision reaches its seventieth anniversary next year – roughly two times the average life expectancy of an individual in Gaza at present. The broadcast will air, but it will find it impossible to reclaim the camp joy it historically embodied. An institution that once promoted togetherness has transformed into a cynical way to whitewash war.
