Jurgen Klopp says rejoining to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, indicated that returning someday is an option. Klopp, post a game-changing nine-season tenure that included a European Cup triumph and the Premier League crown in 30 years, now holds positions in a global football capacity within the Red Bull organization and as an advisor for the DFL.
Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won the league title in the previous campaign, but many fans who revere Klopp would embrace the notion of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he explained to the podcast host: “I said I refuse to lead any other side in England. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“Being 58, so I might decide down the line, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? In that case, I'd stay away. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I can just see how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about which situations would need to occur to bring him back to management, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull toward coming back. “I'm not entirely sure, I love what I do right now,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing during downpours for lengthy sessions; I'm glad to skip media briefings multiple times weekly or constant media duties weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed in that context, but sitting in a restaurant with the team having a nice chat, is pleasant. With many victories so there was often positive atmosphere around the place. I still have Van Dijk's laughter in my ear for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly of the current boss, acknowledging his role for the tweaks that took the title last campaign. Liverpool have lost four in a row in every contest after a summer spending spree, yet he dismissed the suggestion that it might signal the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. [Hugo] Ekitike, superb talent. It’s a really good balanced team. No need for concern regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
He shared movingly regarding the passing of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, along with the consequences on Liverpool. Jota was killed in a vehicle collision with his brother recently.
“Who can fill the void of a person like him? It goes beyond his footballing ability, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the squad missing him. I find it difficult to discuss about it. It was an incredible shock for all the boys as well. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it for poor performances though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room which he filled completely. Coping with it individually is difficult. Impossible.”
