Democratic lawmakers Condemn Trump After He Suggests They Should Face Execution

Lawmakers from the Democratic party voiced anger after Donald Trump alleged a group of Democratic congress members of being "turncoats" and stated they should be detained and sentenced "through capital punishment" following their posting of a disputed video.

The Recording That Triggered the Debate

The clip, shared on earlier this week, features six Democratic lawmakers who in the past worked in defense or security capacities.

"Similar to us, you all made an pledge to protect and uphold this national charter," the officials declared in the brief video. "At present, the risks to our constitution aren't just from abroad, but from domestically. Our regulations are explicit, you can reject unlawful commands, you can refuse illegal orders, you should decline improper directives. No one has to execute directives that break the statutes or our constitution."

The Former President's Angry Reply

The recorded statement seemed to provoke a heated response from the former president.

On later in the week, Trump posted on his social media platform: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In an additional message, he declared: "This is really serious, and Risky to our Nation. Their words cannot be permitted to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a additional post, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also reposted a statement that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Opposition Representatives Respond

Following Trump's statements on Thursday, Democratic leadership released a combined statement censuring the comments.

"Political violence has no place in the United States," they declared. "Representatives who participated in the video all acted our United States with exceptional loyalty and honor. We strongly condemn Donald Trump's disgusting and risky calls for execution against elected officials, and urge Republican lawmakers to strongly do the same."

The party representatives also mentioned that they had been in contact with law enforcement "to ensure the security of these representatives and their loved ones."

"Donald Trump must immediately take down these radical social media posts and withdraw his violent rhetoric before he leads to violence," the announcement stated.

Officials' Firm Response

The officials who appeared in the video also issued a statement.

"We are ex-military personnel and national security professionals who love this United States and made an vow to defend and defend the founding document of the United States," they said. "This commitment continues forever, and we plan to maintain it. No threat, intimidation, or incitement will deter us from that sacred responsibility."

"What's most telling is that the former president considers it liable to punishment by capital punishment for us to repeat the legal requirements," they continued. "Armed forces members should know that we have their protection as they fulfill their vow to the constitution and responsibility to obey only lawful orders. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our obligation."

They stated: "The entire nation must come together and denounce the ex-president's demands for our murder and partisan aggression. This is a time for principled stance."

Additional Political Responses

The Opposition leader also condemned Trump's comments and shared on online networks: "It's important to understand: the former president is calling for the death of government members."

He continued: "This constitutes an outright THREAT. Every Senator, every Representative, the entire nation – regardless of party – should denounce this without delay and absolutely."

The Republican House speaker justified Trump's allegation that the Democrats had participated in "rebellion", labeling the video as "wildly inappropriate", adding: "This represents very dangerous, you have prominent officials of the government telling troops to ignore directives, I think that represents historic in US history."

The GOP official also according to sources informed the press that in what he examined of Trump's messages, Trump was "explaining the offense of treason" but that "legal experts have to examine the language and determine all that."

White House Response

During a White House press conference on later that day, when asked by a journalist, "Does the president want to put to death members of Congress?", the White House press secretary replied: "Certainly not."

"Let's be clear about what the ex-commander in chief is responding to," the spokesperson stated. "We see sitting members of the US Congress who worked together to organize a digital communication to personnel of the US military, to current military personnel urging them to defy the commander in chief's legal commands."

She said: "The integrity of our armed forces rests on the hierarchy, and if that system is violated, it can lead to fatalities, it can result in chaos, and that is exactly what these elected officials ... are fundamentally supporting."
