Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's expected for doubts to be raised about his future following another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the team's poorest run since being relegated in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received a lot of support from above,” Slot stated.

“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory obviously but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that questions are asked.”

He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”

Conversations with The Board

When asked to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:

“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”

He further stated, “Through standard discussions I feel the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”

Recurring Problems and Squad Reaction

Slot lamented known failings from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder said.

“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a phase of this nature with results like these.”

Jones stated, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”

“Our aim is to get this team return to its rightful place, prove again the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”

“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
